Being that there is such a large range of construction laser levels now available in the marketplace, choosing which model to purchase can be quite overwhelming. Researching for specific features of each laser level can be so quite time consuming so here is a basic guide that may help when selecting your next construction laser.

Generally construction lasers are used to determine the accurate level of reference when on the construction site.

First, determine what kind of work do you intend to do? Is it outdoors, indoors or both?

It is important to select the correct construction laser for the job. Depending on the layout of the construction site, you can choose from three different types of Lasers that are less time consuming to use. The Plumb or Dot Lasers work like a laser plumb bob for a reference point on the wall or work surface.

A Line Laser or Laser Line Generators, however, produce a level line in one or more directions and are commonly used indoors because they are small and hand-held. Rotary level Lasers emit level line around the workspace of about 360 degrees.

This is usually larger and used with surveying tripods. Rotary Lasers are mostly used outdoors with the help of a laser detector or commonly known as laser receiver. This allows the laser to be sensed and levels to be graded.

The single or dual grade laser survey equipment can detect the slight grade in a hill or incline. The difference between the two is very simple. The single grade laser measurement equipment will only be able to detect the incline on one level. When the dual type is used, two different levels can be calculated at once.

A rotating laser can emit a laser that has the capabilities of moving in a full circle. This means that the land surveyors can stand in the middle of a section of property and can get a result in a full three hundred and sixty degrees. A straight line laser is one that can determine straight lines.

Pipe Lasers are most commonly used by city municipalities to determine the best placement for underground pipes and other types of piping. This type of laser survey equipment helps to align the pipes so that they are level and will have the most strength in the connection. This would be guesswork without these lasers' accuracy.

There are several types of units of rotational laser levels which include manual-levelling, horizontal Lasers, self-levelling and automatic.

With manual-levelling Lasers, operators manually adjust the unit by turning the thumb screws and levelling the equipment by looking at the bubble vials. These are not very popular any more due to the chance of inaccurate readings. For self-levelling and automatic-levelling Lasers, the unit maintains its level within a specific range. The operator would level the laser to somewhat close to being level and then the laser will do the fine levelling. However, some units may shut themselves down when they get out of level even by 3 or 5 percent.

Laser survey equipment has come along in leaps and bounds when it comes to doing surveys and the technology advances more and more each day. Many construction laser levels are compact and easy to carry around.
